Absentee Ballots
When Can You Vote by Absentee Ballot?
You can vote absentee in any election if you are unable to vote in person because:
- You will be out of town on election day; or
- You have a religious observance that prevents you from voting in person; or
- You have a physical disability or illness that prevents you from voting in person; or
- You have an employment commitment or must care for an adult or child during the entire time polls are open; or
- You are confined in a penal institution for a conviction of a misdemeanor or while awaiting trial; or
- You are a member of the Attorney General’s Address Confidentiality Program or are protected by a Domestic Violence Protective Order; or
- The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm, blizzard, or ice storm warning for your town/ ward for election day, and you have concerns about safely traveling in the storm.
Requesting an Absentee Ballot
You can request an absentee ballot up to six months before the election you are requesting it for.
- For the 2026 State Primary Election, you may now request an absentee ballot.
- For the 2026 State General Election, you can request an absentee ballot as early as May 3, 2026.
If you are a registered voter in Londonderry and qualify to vote absentee, you will need to complete an Absentee Ballot Application and return it to the Town Clerk's office with the required proof of identity (noted on the forms).
Requesting an Absentee Ballot in Person
You may request an absentee ballot by delivering your Absentee Ballot Application in person to the Town Clerk’s office during normal business hours (Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.). Paper forms are available in the Town Clerk's office on the back counter. Please fill out your form before getting in line and have your photo identification ready. No absentee ballot requests will be accepted without valid photo identification.
We CANNOT issue ballots to anyone but the voter themselves (not even relatives or spouses). You can turn in their application with an appropriate copy of their identification, but their ballot will be mailed to them.
If you submit an absentee ballot request in person and ballots are not yet available, your ballot will be mailed to you. If you submit an absentee ballot request in person and ballots are available, you will receive your ballot immediately.
The deadline to request in person is 5:00 p.m. the day before the election.
